Spring Term 2020

We have been finding out about communication in the past and comparing this to ways we communicate now. In class we read ‘The Jolly Postman’ and wrote letters to the Jolly Postman and painted pictures for our class display. We also planned and wrote our own Jolly Postman stories. Here are some examples:

In Art we have been colour mixing using powder paint and the reception children made some beautiful rainbows. We have also been learning about the impressionist artist Claude Monet, with the year one children using fingerprinting to create their own pictures inspired by Monet’s garden paintings.

In Science we have been learning about animals, including our pets. We have also been exploring the weather and making our own weather reports.

Holly Class have been working hard in Maths. Here are some pictures of children measuring objects in our classroom using cubes and tape measures.

Our role play corner changed into a post office, so we had lots of fun pretending to send letters and parcels. Then we enjoyed writing real letters to our parents and the children were excited to walk to the post office to post their letters. They were even more excited to get some replies!

Autumn Term 2019

Outdoor Space

The children have enjoyed exploring the outdoor space, including playing with our new mud kitchen, kindly made by a grandparent and donated to the school.

Christmas 2019

Holly class and Maple class worked so hard during the Autumn term to learn our Christmas play ‘Everyone loves a baby’ based on the Nativity story. The children also enjoyed making Christingles for our church service.

Art

In Art the children had fun making Autumn pictures out of leaves, conkers, pinecones and twigs. They also used paint and collage materials to make hedgehogs. We have been developing our drawing and sketching skills using pencils and pastels. As you can see from the results the children were very proud of their self portrait pictures.

Wimpole Farm Visit - October 2019

In October, KS1 went on a trip to visit Wimpole farm. It was a fantastic day and the children saw so many animals and had the chance to feed the pigs. Take a look at some of the things we got up to. The children were excited to write their recounts all about our farm visit - see below. See also Special Events Photo Gallery

Summer Term 2019

This term we have enjoyed the wonderful world of minibeasts and particularly enjoyed being minibeast detectives. We found lots of creepy crawlies around our school grounds and this inspired us to write our own ‘What am I?” minibeast riddles.
The highlight of our term has been our exciting trip to Hinchingbrooke Country Park, where we had fun pond dipping and hunting for minibeasts. In Art we made collages of mini beasts selecting various materials and resources. As part of a Design and Technology project we designed and made homes for some minibeasts.
During the second half of term we have been exploring mega beasts and during Literacy the children have written some super descriptions of their favourite dinosaurs.

Spring Term 2019

As part of our topic on Castles and Courts we have been very lucky to visit Oxburgh Hall this term. We enjoyed learning about the moat, tower and battlements. In small groups we crawled into the priest’s hole and experienced what it would have been like for a Tudor priest. We also climbed the spiral stairs to visit the King's and Queen’s bedrooms.

The children helped to make a castle for our role play corner in the space place and loved dressing up as knights and princesses. As you can see in the photos we also had lots of fun playing outside in our play area.

In Art, we started the term making our class collage for the Gransden Show. This involved drawing self portraits using pencils, pastels and printing patterns. We have enjoyed making clay hedgehogs linked to our work on Autumn. This half term we have been colour mixing and learning a song about the primary and secondary colours.

In Science we have been finding out about materials. We have also been learning about the seasons and collecting leaves from around school to make pictures and ordering them by size in maths.

Our Previous Work

As part of Our World topic in Spring 2018, we went on the train to Peterborough and went to visit a school.  We made lots of new friends...

Autumn 2017

The children enjoyed this term and learning about space and the International Space Station as well as astronauts Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong.  In addition to learning about space, we came to school in our pyjamas for Children in Need and as our favourite book character for Book Week and shared the books we liked.  We learnt about materials in science and as part of our art work some of the year 1 children created space picture with pastels.   We also finished the year performing our Christmas Nativity and were very proud of our show.  The parents and carers enjoyed it very much, particularly joining in the song at the end.  Please see the main site for photos of the Christmas Nativity. At the end of the term we were lucky enough to have some reindeers and goats and a donkey come to visit us and we would like to thank the organisers of this for bringing their animals along.

Spring 2018

This spring we have been learning all about our world starting with our school and the villages we live in.  We have learnt about the difference between the town and country.  We wrote letters to our parents and walked to the post box and posted them.  Our parents wrote back to us and we found out about all the different places they grew up.  We were very excited to read their letters and find out about all the places in the United Kingdom and across the world everyone's family comes from.

In science we have found out about animals and our pets and in art we have been colour mixing in reception and looked at some paintings by the impressionist Monet in Year 1.  We created our own landscape paintings with fingers and cotton buds and townscapes with pastels.

In RE we have been finding out about Jesus as a leader and a teacher and  learning about Easter.

We have worked very hard this term and Mrs Hussey is very proud of the progress we are making in our writing and maths as well.
