Internet Safety

E-safety policy

At Barnabas Oley Church of England School, we believe that the use of information and communication technologies in schools brings great benefits. To live, learn and work successfully in an increasingly complex and information-rich society, our children must be able to use technology effectively.

The use of these exciting and innovative technology tools in school and at home has been shown to raise educational standards and promote pupil achievement. Yet at the same time we recognise that the use of these new technologies can put young people at risk within and outside the school. We need to recognise the safeguarding issues and plan to minimise the risks accordingly.

When using online technologies, it is essential that children understand how to behave in a safe and responsible manner and also how to react when faced with inappropriate content or situations which make them feel uncomfortable. At Barnabas Oley CoE Primary School we believe that a comprehensive programme of E-Safety education is vital for developing our pupils’ ability to use technologies safely. This is achieved using a combination of discrete and embedded activities drawn from a selection of appropriate materials.

Any known or suspicious online misuse or problem will be reported to the Headteacher for investigation.

Internet Safety Evening for Parents

On Tuesday 16 July 2024, we had our curriculum evening for parents which was on internet safety run by The Two Johns. This was an informative event that received extremely positive comments from the parents that attended:

‘I found this eye opening and it has really given me some context with which to consider my child’s online activities’.

‘Such a brilliant session, thank you. It has really highlighted the importance for me to stay up to date with social media so I can help my children. I would definitely attend future sessions like this.’

‘Informative, useful and well presented’

‘Thank you so much this was so useful.  We have learnt a lot and appreciate your measured approach.  So helpful – thank you’
