Golden Time

As a reward for brilliant behaviour and lots of hard work, each Half Term we hold Golden Time. For the entire afternoon, usually on a Friday, children can select an activity that they would like to take part in. There is a mixture of children from all the different classes and year groups. To date, the following activities have been offered by staff and parent helpers;

Board games, Lego, cooking, silk painting, Christmas crafts, computer programming, Wii Dance, art and music, Shaun the Sheep activities, mosaics, musical theatre, film making, felt making, origami, cheerleading, gardening, Maypole dancing, new languages, and more.

Examples of our Golden Time sessions:

  • children learnt about the history behind the novel and musical ,'Les Miserables' and enacted a couple of scenes and songs. West-end stars in the making!
  •  pupils signed up for games programming using the Scratch program developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

"Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art... As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively."

If you would like to have a go at using Scratch, you can download the software at home from here. You can then have a go at creating some programs from the information sheet (PDF) used by the pupils in Golden Time.
