Congratulations to Phoenix House for winning our inaugural Spelling Bee competition.

There were four rounds of games, some against the clock:

• Solve the anagram - with one of two possible answers e.g. P S L E I P R = slipper or ripples

• Spelling - For pupils representing Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 the pronouncer announced the word to be spelled. The words chosen were taken from the list that was issued to pupils earlier in the term. The speller then pronounced the word back, spelled it out and then said the word again. For the younger pupils they were asked to write down their spellings on a whiteboard.

• Find as many words (3 letters or more) from the word Constantinople.

• Countdown style game using a number of consonants and vowels chosen by the team captains.
